This weeks Remake / Remodel at Whitechapel is a bit different from usual. Here’s the new rules of the game:

“You are an artist/designer. You have to put together the cover for a comic called SUPERMAN. It is issue 1 of this book.

You have been told that Superman is a man who dresses predominantly in a shade of blue, and wears a red S symbol. You know nothing else about the character.

The cover must include a logo and the text THE COMPLETE STORY OF THE DARING EXPLOITS OF THE ONE AND ONLY SUPERMAN.

And that’s it.

It’s up to you what kind of company you’re at. What kind of comics you make. How you translate that description of Superman. What era you’re in. Who you are, even. Go nuts with it.

You have one week. Go.”

Last time I checked, Superman was still copyright (c) DC Comics.

Skyrocket Steele

This picture was my entry for one for one of the Remake/Remodel challenges taking place regularly at the Whitechapel forums. The Challenge here was to create a new version of SkyRocket Steele, a character from 1930 that lasted six issues:

“Skyrocket Steele was a hero in the year X. He was assisted by Sari Marston and Invex the Invisible Man. His nemesis was Vance Roy. Skyrocket Steele was the first character created by Bill Everett”.

There’s a 3D streoscopic version on the right, but you’ll need a pair of 3D glasses to see is properly. The red for the left and green for the right kind of glasses, not the ones you get at 3D movies.

Esta imagen fue mi contribución a uno de los hilos Remake/Remodel que se organizan con regularidad en los foros de Whitechapel. El reto aquí, era crear una nueva versión de Skyrocket Steele, un personaje de 1930 que sólo duró tres números:

La imagen de la derecha es una versión estereoscópica. Te harán falta un par de gafas 3D para ver el efecto. Gafas rojas y verdes (a izquierda y derecha respectivamente) y no del tipo de las que se utilizan en las salas de cine modernas.

La armada de drN01 acaba de subir un nuevo videoclip a la web de su Netlabel. Si os gustó “Drivi’n up the Façade” de G. McQuay, no podéis perderos este nuevo clip: “El niño”.

Todo el mundo sabe que los músicos son gente de vida disoluta y que uno no puede confiar en su palabra ni dar por hecho que recordarán las promesas que hicieron cuando iban borrachos hasta las cejas. Por eso me he llevado una gran sorpresa cuando, en contra de todo pronóstico, los amigos de drN01 me han hecho llegar este paquete con un par de copias de su EP “Emergency Exit”. Todo porque una tarde me senté con ellos un rato a picar vídeo y tirar un par de pistas para montar una mierda de videoclip (entérate, George, tu corte merecía algo mejor). Pero en cualquier caso parece que ellos se quedaron contentos y ahora yo tengo aquí estos MCDs. Cojonudo.

Recordad que podéis descargaros “Emergency Exit” desde la web de drN01 y conseguir copias materiales en Survivrations (Lux Interior Passage 6, Vauxhall) y la sala Hammerdrive (Aronnax Av. 136 Fishmonger’s), si no me equivoco.

Tangana!: Round 2

A pesar de las protestas por nuestras tácticas poco deportivas seguimos vivos y hemos alcanzado las semifinales de Tangana, el evento deportivo más popular de la ciudad de Steel Raining. Apenas han pasado unos días desde que pusimos fuera de juego al Buey y su equipo en los cuartos de final, pero eso ya es agua pasada. Ahora tenemos por delante al Team Fetish del Sigma Rod, Aserrador y la Máquina TXATron. Pero el fabuloso bastón de mindfuck ha traido consigo a una amiga. Alguien que parece conocer algunos de nuestros secretos.

‘In to Views’ is an interview site to help promote artists and writers of all different types and genres. Artists, musicians, writers, thinkers – anyone with a project they wish to talk about. A few weeks ago, they gave me the chance to fill in their questionnaire:

what is your name?

how would you describe what you do?
Somebody said I’m someone who draws things. That’s fine for me. I draw things.

what are you currently working on?
I just released “Superwolf”, a print on demand comic book, and I’m also finishing the newest bulk update for my webcomics site “Steel Raining”, which is in fact a collection of short stories. Then there’s this project I’ve been working on for the last few years that I’d like to finish once and for all. I’m only 8 pages away from the end, so I think…

Weezine #2 online

Me ha pillado por sopresa, pero ya podéis leer en línea el segundo número del Weezine, la recopilación de webcómics que imprime de forma más o menos anual la gente de www.webcomics.es

Y lo mejor es que viene con una sorpresita y yo no me había enterado hasta ahora.

WEEZINE #2: el apocalipsis friki, por varios autores. Blanco y negro. Tomo. 14,8 x 21 cm. 74 páginas. PVP 2’50 euros. En este segundo número los aguerridos dibujantes del WEE se enfrentan al fn del mundo tal y como lo conocemos. 74 páginas por las que desflan demonios, zombis, meteoritos, concejales de urbanismo y demás peligros para la humanidad.

Podéis conseguir copias de este y otros Weezines en salones del cómic, ferias, parques y afterhours. La tercera entrega ya está por ahí circulando.

¡Por fin tenemos en marcha SuperWolf! La historia que creamos en menos de 12 horas, durante el maratón Comictime Attack del pasado mes de abril, está disponible impresa bajo demanda y tiene toda la buena pinta que puede tener un cómic dibujado a la velocidad del rayo.

“Las industrias alimenticias Zalade y sus hamburguesas radioactivas arruinaron la vida de Wade Wolfer y lo transformaron en SuperWolf, el licántropo carroñero de vómito corrosivo. Descubre las aventuras del verdadero perro verde desde el fatídico día de su último partido de hockey hasta el futuro, donde tendrá que luchar por su cordura contra Jenny Everywhere, la trasladora de código abierto”.

En internet siempre es difícil afirmar estas cosas con rotundidad, pero sí, de acuerdo con los amigos de The Shifter Archive, SuperWolf incluye la primera aparición de Jenny EveryWhere en español. De modo que si sentís curiosodad, el cómic viene con 24 páginas en B/N, portada a todo color y sale a la venta por 5′95€ a través de Lulu. Si queréis ver un avance, allí mismo encontraréis unas pocas páginas.

Así que compradlo, leedlo y sacadlo a pasear. Los artículos, plugs, tweets, retweets y publicidad de toda clase son más que bienvenidos. Hay disponible mucha más información sobre Superwolf y Comictime Attack ‘09 en este artículo de abril y este otro de hace unas semanas, que también incluye un vistazo al interior del cómic.

Esperamos repetir la experiencia en algún momento de 2010, aunque de momento es difícil asegurar nada.

Un encargo que acabo de terminar para http://octobrianacz.blogspot.com/. Vuelve Octobriana, la super vixen soviética de origen incierto. Según un señor llamado Peter Sadecky, fue creada en 1960 por el colectivo ruso PPP (Pornografía Política Progresiva). A saber. Ambas imágenes se incluirán dentro de un calendario impreso bajo demanda, de modo que no perdáis de vista su blog.

(Por cierto que la versión definitiva será ligeramente distinta y Octobriana llevará un puñal kris en la mano, en lugar del rifle. Pero vamos que cogéis la idea.)
